Stockport Labour Group launches petition to stop the closure of Stockport Post Office.
The proposed closure of 115 Crown Post Offices, which are directly owned by the Post Office, has sparked significant concern across the country.
The affected branches, including our very own Stockport Town Centre post office employ around 1,000 workers. These closures could see branches transferred to retail partners or shut down entirely if alternatives are not viable.
The Communication Workers Union has criticized the timing of this announcement, describing it as insensitive, especially given the ongoing fallout from the Horizon IT scandal that wrongfully implicated sub postmasters in financial crimes.
Stockport Labour Group Deputy Leader Cllr Christine Carrigan said “These closures threaten community access to essential services and risk job security for many employees and at a time when the post office is at its lowest ebb this feels particularly unjust”
Let’s come together to ensure that Stockport keeps its town centre Post Office. It’s more than a service; it’s a necessity. Please sign this petition to keep our Post Office open and accessible for all.
